  3. Overall, the P-38 Lightning fared well 
  4. against its Luftwaffe counterparts, the Bf 
  5. 109 and FW 190.  This was mostly due, 
  6. however, to the skill of the pilots flying the 
  7. P-38.  These German fighters were both 
  8. designed for operations at high altitudes in 
  9. sub-zero temperatures, whereas the P-38 
  10. suffered from turbocharger failures and 
  11. poor cockpit heating under such 
  12. conditions.  At lower altitudes, the P-38 
  13. could bring its nose around a little bit 
  14. faster than either of these two opponents.  
  15. And although the Bf 109 was faster in the 
  16. initial dive, the P-38 was superior to both 
  17. the Bf 109 and the FW 190 in extended 
  18. dives and climbs.

  22. Take off from Quedlinburg Luftwaffe 
  23. airfield to intercept a formation of B-17s.  
  24. The bombers are headed for the aircraft 
  25. factory at Oschersleben.

  27. Each of your five FW 190A-8s is armed 
  28. with 21 cm Wfr. Gr. rocket-fired mortars to 
  29. assist you in stopping the bombers.  A pair 
  30. of Bf 109s is on hand to handle the P-38 
  31. escorts.
